Welcome to the picturesque Canadian Rockies! Known for its stunning natural beauty and abundant outdoor activities, the Bow Valley and surrounding area is paradise for winter enthusiasts. Among the many winter sports available, cross country skiing stands out as a favourite among locals and visitors alike! In this post, we will delve into the wonders of cross country skiing in the Bow Valley and discover why it’s an experience you don’t want to miss!
Cross-Country Skiing
Surrounded by the soaring mountains, dense forests, and glistening frozen lakes, the Bow Valley offers a diverse range of trails suited for all skill levels. Whether you’re a beginner -- like me -- or an experienced skier, the Bow Valley and beyond has something for everyone! One of the highlights of cross country skiing in the mountains is the opportunity to immerse yourself in nature’s grandeur.
Picture yourself gliding through snow-covered landscapes with majestic peaks towering above you. As you explore the trails, keep a safe eye out for the wildlife such as bears, deer, elk, and even the occasional glimpse of a snowshoe hare. To maintain your safety, it’s advised to travel in groups, make noise while on the trails and keep your pets leashed. The serene beauty of the Bow Valley’s winter wonderland is truly awe-inspiring!
Canmore's Ski Trails
Canmore boasts a vast network of meticulously-maintained ski trails that cater to all abilities. Not to mention the Canmore Nordic Centre -- a legacy of the 1988 Winter Olympics -- is a must-visit destination for cross country skiing enthusiasts. With up to 100 kilometers of groomed trails, this world-class facility offers a mix of beginner-friendly loops and challenging routes that wind through stunning alpine meadows and serene forests.
If you crave more adventure, 56 kilometers East of Canmore is the well known Kananaskis Village, where more cross country skiing trails await your company!
Or you can head to Banff (25 km) and Lake Louise (80km) West of Canmore to venture further!
